Leaving Lauderdale (at last)

We finally left Ft Lauderdale on 10 January. Although we had purchased Distant Drummer in July of 2017, and I retired September 2017, there were numerous projects that had to be completed before we left. (Since this post is to be one of my first, my chief editor (Jan) and my web site chief architect (Rob) suggested that I save all the painful details of these projects for a later date and to start off on a happy note.)

We had moved the boat to a marina just inside the Everglades Cut so we were able to leave bright and early on the slack tide. It was a beautiful day with light wind out of the east. We made it out under the last bridge into the big blue Atlantic, turned south and cruised down the coast past Miami to an inlet to Biscayne Bay called Cape Florida. It was only about 30 miles (about 7 hours) and we arrived just before sunset, anchored and were welcomed by an awesome rainbow. It was our longest cruise on Drummer to date and first time to anchor out for the night.

Started sailing and racing Hobie Cats in the early 80's. Jan and I fell in love with the cruising life and retired to do more of it on our dream boat.
